| In the over 40 years since the Supreme Court made their decree, the blueprint for human life within DNA has become far more understood, the human genome has been mapped, and advancements in cellular biology have advanced exponentially so that embryonic development can no longer just be called a ?clump of cells?, but rather clearly can be seen as stages of human development, of a human being, who is entitled to their human rights, especially the right to life. Debate is essential to good government and this matter has been far from settled in the debate of public opinion. | |||

| By reducing defense spending, it would be a reduction in certain areas that currently continue to spend to their budgeted amount only to keep their budgeted dollars at that level. The policy of being required to spend budgeted dollars whether needed or not is what must be corrected. A zero-base budget should be implemented in order to justify and require accountability in the spending of federal dollars, in all areas (not just defense spending.) | |||

As a legislator, I believe that minimum sentences, in some cases, could potentially include extensive community service in programs that work to reform the individual and instill values consistent with being a productive member of society. Currently, most of the alternative to incarceration programs are doing little to address the value system offenders hold and from which they are making their illegal choices. In the many cases where incarceration is necessary, then the sentence and prison conditions should be severe enough to actually deter individuals from committing the crime. | |||

Taxes should be fairly applied to all who pay them- to incentivize action by business through governmental action is to have the government cross into areas that are best left to free market factors. Governmental action that can have the greatest effect on business and the economy is to not hinder job creation through excessive taxation or regulation. Hence, lowering taxes is the most effective means of job promotion. | |||

| Constitutionally speaking, the federal government does not belong in education, and as such should not be leveraging action by states in education for the receipt of federal dollars. However, as the legislation is currently written, the building does rely on federal monies in some form and the issue is that the government should not be involved in funding oil or renewable energies. The free market should be driving the development of these technologies and resources. As American innovation and individual preferences drive technology the competition of the free market will do more to improve energy production than will governmental interference. | |||

| I believe that the scientific data on the climate change shows a 1.5 degree temperature change over approximately 120 years since temperature has been being recorded. While all human activity has some effect on the planet, which in small ways can contribute to climate change, that is a far different proposition than suggesting that human activity is the primary cause of climate change. The difference between these positions can most clearly be seen in the fact that even if the policy proposals put forth by climate change activists were implemented the change to temperature would only be .3 degree Celsius. | |||

I do believe that an important component to the right to bear arms be that those law-abiding citizens are well-regulated in their gun use and that efforts to ensure proper gun education and safety should be taken to emphasize the responsibilities that come with the rights of gun ownership. | |||

I believe the individual mandate of a purchase of a good or service or to face a tax to be grossly unconstitutional, and that this action shows governmental favoritism towards one sector of business, namely insurance companies (but also pharmaceutical companies as well.) | |||

During the time they are serving this sentence those here illegally are non-citizens and would have no access to entitlement services, as a result of this policy it is very possible that many individuals here illegally may choose to voluntarily return to their home countries. | Currently federal spending has reached out of control levels with our nation facing $19.5 trillion dollars in debt and hundreds of trillions in unfunded liabilities. Spending needs to be confined to constitutional necessities and areas into which government has expanded spending unconstitutionally needs to be turned over to the private and individual sectors for better management, oversight, use of money, and reduction of debt and corruption. In so doing, this will restore confidence to the economic sector, prompting for investment, job creation, and economic growth, rather than having it controlled and burdened by limited and undue government regulation. | |||
| Due to corruption of the current tax code, abuses of power by the IRS, and a 77,000 page tax code beyond the comprehension of most voters there is a necessity to drastically alter the current taxation policy and process by the federal government. The most effective way to accomplish this goal of fair, flatter, and simpler taxes is to implement a consumption based taxation, rather than income based taxation, much as had been in place prior to the 16th amendment. In so doing work will not penalized and deductions and subsidies cannot be abused by politicians to reward special interests. | |||
